Link: The Verge: Pre Postmortem
This is a fairly long and probably comprehensive write-up about the birth and death of the Palm Pre. But, for all the reasons that it lists for why the Pre failed, they left out the most important one: The Palm Pre wasn't very good. It crashed a lot (necessitating removing the battery, which was really not easy), it was extremely slow, the web browser wasn't as good as Apple's, the apps weren't there, the apps that were there weren't very good, the GPS never actually worked, etc.
I was extremely eager to get a Pre because I liked (and still like) the direction that WebOS was moving in. But, when it came down to it, the execution wasn't there and I ended up suffering for the duration of my two year contract.
